Virginia Waterways Signing Program

Waterway signs form part of the Virginia’s outreach program with The Department of Conservation and Recreation and The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. These signs raise awareness on the impact of watershed areas in the state. These signs are installed on interstate, primary and secondary facilities.

*The Virginia Waterways signage program do not incur an annual ad space cost, but fabrication, installation, maintenance, and replacement of the sign is the responsibility of the enquiring entity.

Winery Program

Signing requirements for wineries and farmers’ markets are included in the participation criteria in the Attractions category of the Logo Program and in the TODS Program. Wineries and vineyards are no longer accepted under the SGS program. However, those signs that were included as SGS prior to September 15, 2004 have been “Grandfathered” into the system.

State Scenic River Program

The Virginia Scenic Rivers Program identifies, designates, and helps protect rivers and streams that possess outstanding scenic, recreational, historic, and natural characteristics of statewide significance for future generations. State Scenic River signs may be installed on interstate, primary and secondary facilities. All costs associated with this program, including costs for the fabrication, maintenance, installation and replacement of these signs, shall be the responsibility of the requesting entity. A list of Scenic Rivers is provided by DCR and is sometimes combined with waterways signs.
